Canon Point: About a week after the Rhombulan attack
Character Info: Series wiki; Character wiki; Given the lack of detail in both of the above, we are going firmly into headcanon territory here. You've been warned.
J is Agent 02 of the Elite Beat Agents, a secret government agency dedicated to encouraging and bettering the world through the power of dance. No, seriously.
Turns out every living being has a tune, and J is one of the few able to hear that Music. He can tap into it and manipulate it via dance; the purpose of the EBA is to use that skill to help people find the strength and encouragement to accomplish things they're not sure they can do. This can range from helping a teenage girl babysit three unruly kids and impress her boyfriend all at the same time to helping a former pro baseball player fight off a giant fire-breathing golem at a theme park. The high point and most dangerous mission they'd ever encountered was when the entire Agency came together to fend off an invasion of music-hating aliens called Rhombulans.

Personality: The best part about J is, he’s great at what he does and he knows it. He’s got the self-assured confidence of somebody who knows what they’re doing and how to do it right. That confidence is strong enough to transfer into activities he’s never done before – he’ll give just about anything a shot and he’ll walk into it a hundred and ten percent certain he’ll succeed. Deep down, he’s proud of the fact that he’s doing good as an Agent, and he won’t hesitate to help anyone who needs it. On the surface, he’s a pretty cool guy – he can be laid back, casual, contribute to the conversation with an occasional good-natured zinger – until the call for a mission comes in.

The worst part about J is, he’s great about what he does and he knows it. That confidence has a habit of turning into arrogance, especially when he’s doing something he considers easy or is around someone with less experience than he has. He has a penchant for showing off, and he’s a bit too concerned with his image (dude, have you seen the hair?). His confidence can and will backfire – J’s gotten himself in over his head before. He’ll also be pretty upset in the event of failure, being humiliatingly one-upped, or getting knocked down a few pegs by someone with a good head on their shoulders.

At the center of it all, however, is compassion and a lot of it. When you can hear how badly someone is hurting, how can you not stop to help?

☆INTERSTELLAR
Chosen Powers: J's one and only power is his ability to hear and manipulate the Music. It won't be as strong as it was back home, but it'll be more than enough for him to be able to hear what's wrong with people's tunes and to work to set it right. Given how rough interdimensional travel is and how different Americana's music is, it'll take a little time before he settles into new rhythms and gets his ability to manipulate the Music back up to par. (30 MP)
Chosen Equipment: None
Relevant Skills: Being a secret agent, J is pretty good at getting into and out of places he's not supposed to be, completely unnoticed. He's also fairly good at talking his way into and out of things; being able to hear someone's reception to his words in their tune definitely helps with that. He's very charismatic and a fairly good liar to boot.
Character Goals: This is literally his job. There are people out there who need help, and who's he to turn that down? It's why he joined the Agency, after all. On a more personal note, someone is using Music to alter and torture people; while the word abhorrent isn't in J's normal vocabulary, that's what the situation is to him. It's deeply, incredibly, and personally wrong, and he's going to do anything he can to fix it.

Writing Sample: Dance to the music
